Columbus Consolidated Government participates in the National Flood Insurance Program, and as a result, Citizens of Muscogee County enjoy a discount on their flood insurance policies. To obtain a discount, the Stormwater Division must maintain an inventory of various documents and help the public by providing guidance and resources.

All buildings with federally related financial assistance that are in a high-risk flood zone, called the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA), are required by law to have flood insurance. Contact the Stormwater Division if you are unsure if a building is in a SFHA. We can help and provide information, but ultimately it is up to the lender on what insurance may be require

Staff can check a Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) or Flood Insurance Study Profile, but the best way to determine what flood zone the building is in is with an Elevation Certificate. An Elevation Certificate can provide the necessary information to confirm or dispute which flood zone the building is in. CCG maintains an inventory of Elevation Certificates that have been provided to us. You may want to contact a licensed surveyor if you’re inquiring about a property that is not in our inventory and believe it may be inadvertently included in the SFHA.
