Training Courses

Civilian Firearms Course

The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Training Division, led by the Vision of Sheriff Countryman, has created and formed a novice/inexperienced shooter course to teach the basics of shooting. Whether you have never fired a round of ammunition or have been shooting for years you will leave more experienced and prepared to defend yourself, should the need ever arise. During the course of this class, you will spend 3 to 4 hours in the classroom learning the 7 basic fundamentals of shooting, safety precautions, gun laws and the basic anatomy/nomenclature of your firearm. That will be Day 1 of the training which usually takes place on a Monday evening.

Day 2 will take place at the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office range located at 7149 Manor Rd down behind the prison. You will spend 3 to 4 hours applying the fundamentals you learned in the classroom on the range. You will receive one on one instruction throughout the course of the morning’s shooting exercises. At the end of the instructional part of the morning we will practice with some real-world style scenarios. Afterward we will clean up and have the presentation of the Class Participation Certificates.

The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Training Division Staff, led by the Vision of Sheriff Countryman, has became certified to teach a program that was developed by the National Rifle Association. While the class is created by the NRA it has nothing to do with the shooting. This program was created in 1993 in response to the public outcry for a program that they could attend to help them to better prepare themselves to be more self-aware of their surroundings. Initially this course was for women only, but as it continued to grow the NRA and the public saw that it could help not only women but men as well.

On the day this course is held you will go over topics that will help you to learn to be more cognizant of your surroundings, safety precautions, things to avoid doing and things you can do to be more secure in your daily life. This class is usually held 2 to 3 times a year and lasts around 4 hours. When you arrive for class, you will be provided refreshments and comfortable learning environment. We look forward to seeing you in class.
