On Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 6:57 p.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to the 1000 block of Enoch Drive in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a female victim who had been shot. The victim was transported by EMS to Piedmont Columbus Regional ER.

NEWS RELEASE: CROSS TIE COURT HOMICIDE

On Saturday, November 19,2022 at 1:15 a.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to a shooting in the 6200 block of Cross Tie Court. Upon arrival, officers found the victim in front of the apartment. EMS responded and transported the victim to Piedmont Columbus Regional ER. The victim, Joshua Huff, 16, died shortly after arriving to the hospital.

NEWS RELEASE: MURDER OF KEAMON HIGHTOWER

 Wednesday, November 9, 2022

On November 8, 2022 around 11:54 a.m., Columbus Police responded to the intersection of Parkwood Drive and Braebern Street regarding a shooting incident. Upon arrival, officers discovered a Black male (later identified as Keamon Hightower, 28) lying in the road suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

NEWS RELEASE: MURDER OF CHRISTOPHER WILLIAMS

 Saturday, November 5, 2022

On October 19, 2022 around 6:25 a.m., Columbus Fire and EMS responded to the 2400 block of Blan Street concerning a medical emergency. Upon arrival, paramedics found that the victim was deceased. A Deputy Coroner responded and pronounced the victim, Christopher Williams, deceased at 7:10 a.m. Williams had recently been involved in a fight where he was struck in the head repeatedly by another male, so an autopsy was performed to determine the cause of death.

NEWS RLEASE: AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ON A POLICE OFFICER

 Thursday, November 3, 2022

On November 1, 2022 at approximately 11:00 p.m., Columbus Police Officers were dispatched to 3737 Cusseta Road (Avalon Apartments) in reference to several males in a black car with a stolen temporary license tag. Upon arrival, officers located the reported vehicle and attempted to take control of the individuals, but two rear passengers exited the vehicle. One officer attempted to detain the two exiting passengers himself, but they each attempted to get away. The officer chased one of them - Kevin Jackson. During the foot pursuit, Jackson turned towards the officer and pulled a pistol from his waistband.

NEWS RELEASE: MURDER OF MARQUEYVIUS DOZIER

On Sunday, October 23, 2022, Columbus Police responded to a shooting in the 2200 block of Mahan Drive (near Delray Drive). Upon arrival, officers found one male in the yard suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported by EMS to Piedmont Columbus Regional Emergency Room. A second victim, who left the scene prior to the officers’ arrival, was taken to Piedmont by a private vehicle.

NEWS RELEASE: CANTRELL DRIVE HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

 Friday, October 21, 2022

On Saturday, October 22, 2022, Columbus Police responded to a shooting at a home on Cantrell Drive. Upon arrival, officers found Joseph Kelly, 31, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. EMS responded and transported Kelly to Piedmont ER. However, Kelly died prior to arriving at the hospital. He was pronounced deceased by Coroner Buddy Bryan.

NEWS RELEASE: CRIME SUPPRESSION DETAIL

Between October 14-16, 2022, the Columbus Police Department in partnership with Georgia State Patrol conducted a citywide crime suppression operation. During that 3-day period, Columbus Police Officers and Georgia State Troopers saturated multiple locations in Muscogee County and made contact with people who were in violation of Georgia state laws. Officers and Troopers utilized multiple resources during this operation including technology, intelligence, aerial assets (Georgia State Patrol Aviation Division) and more.

NEWS RELEASE: FALLEN OFFICERS MEMORIAL

The Columbus Police Department will host the Columbus Against Drugs (CAD) Fallen Officers Memorial. The event will be held Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. at the Columbus City Services Center located at 3111 Citizens Way. This is an annual event that honors the lives of officers who have fallen in the line of duty.

NEWS RELEASE: ARSON SUSPECT CHARGED WITH MURDER

 Wednesday, October 12, 2022

On March 4, 2022, Columbus Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 1600 block of 14th Ave. After putting out the fire, firefighters discovered the body of a male (later identified as Valburn Almonord) still inside the structure. The fire was believed to be arson and the suspect, Richard Jernigan, Jr., was interviewed by both police and fire investigators. Jernigan was arrested that day and charged with Arson 1st Degree. Almonord’s body was sent for autopsy.
