The Columbus Police Department’s Fugitive Unit completed another active month of warrant enforcement in April 2026, resulting in a total of 45 arrests of individuals with outstanding warrants.
On Thursday, May 7, 2026, the Columbus Police Department’s Special Operations Division executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 1000 block of Kirkland Drive. During the search, investigators seized approximately 440.5 grams of marijuana (street value $4,405), three firearms (one reported stolen), and $705 in U.S. currency.

On May 7, 2026 around 5:20 p.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to the 4400 block of Merrywood Drive in reference to a shooting. Responding officers discovered a Black male (later identified as Dean Hill, 30) suffering from a gunshot wound.

On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, members of the Columbus Police Department’s Special Operations Unit, with assistance from the Georgia State Patrol, concluded a narcotics investigation resulting in the seizure of illegal drugs and the arrest of two individuals.

On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, members of the Columbus Police Department Special Operations Unit, along with the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division at Fort Benning, executed a search warrant at BABA Smoke Shop (2111 Manchester Expressway). The search warrant was the result of an investigation initiated after receiving complaints about suspected illegal activity.

On April 2, 2026 at 11:50 p.m., Columbus Police Officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Victory Drive in reference to a shooting. Responding officers discovered a Black male (later identified as Calvin Mitchell, 37) suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS responded to the scene and transported him to Piedmont Columbus Regional where he died from his injuries.
