The Columbus City Council has approved a temporary curfew ordinance for unsupervised minors in Uptown Columbus. The ordinance will take effect 10 days after Mayor Skip Henderson signs it and will remain in effect through September 30, 2026, unless extended by City Council.

The Columbus Police Department is aware of ongoing issues involving groups of unsupervised minors gathering in Uptown and other business areas across the city during evening hours. Officers and business owners have seen ongoing incidents involving disruptive behavior, trespassing, fights, and social media-driven disturbances inside businesses. In several cases, businesses have closed early because of the disruptions.

On Thursday, May 7, 2026, the Columbus Police Department’s Special Operations Division executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 1000 block of Kirkland Drive.

On May 7, 2026 around 5:20 p.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to the 4400 block of Merrywood Drive in reference to a shooting. Responding officers discovered a Black male (later identified as Dean Hill, 30) suffering from a gunshot wound.

On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, members of the Columbus Police Department’s Special Operations Unit, with assistance from the Georgia State Patrol, concluded a narcotics investigation resulting in the seizure of illegal drugs and the arrest of two individuals.
