DRIVER ATTEMPTS TO FLEE, ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES

On Saturday, January 14, 2023, a Columbus Police Department Patrol Officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the area of Beacon Avenue and 29th Street. The vehicle immediately fled. After a brief search of the area, the vehicle was found after it crashed on Peabody Avenue near 27th Street.

ATTEMPT TO IDENTIFY THEFT SUSPECT

The Columbus Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a theft suspect. On January 2, 2023, a customer entered the McDonald’s located on the 3300 block of Macon Road. After completing the transaction, the customer left their wallet on the counter at the register area.

MURDER OF KAMERON HOLCEY

 Sunday, January 15, 2023

On Sunday, January 15, 2023 at 3:19 a.m., Columbus Police were dispatched to the 2900 block of 3rd Avenue in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, responding officers were led to a vacant lot between 3rd Avenue and 2nd Avenue where they found a Black male (later identified as Kameron Holcey) suffering from a gunshot wound(s).

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG BUST AND ARREST

On Tuesday, January 10, 2023, two officers in the Columbus Police Department’s Patrol Unit conducted a traffic stop in the area of 6th Avenue and Belmont Street. Probable cause was established to search the vehicle.

ATTEMPT TO IDENTIFY ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT

The Columbus Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying an armed robbery suspect. On December 12, 2022 around 3:12 a.m., CPD Officers were dispatched to the Circle K on the 3700 block of Macon Road in reference to an Armed Robbery. Upon arrival, they learned that the suspect pictured below entered the business and robbed the clerk with a knife.

UPDATE: ARRESTS MADE IN CROSS TIE COURT HOMICIDE

 Tuesday, January 10, 2023

On Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 1:15 a.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to a shooting in the 6200 block of Cross Tie Court. Upon arrival, officers found the victim in front of the apartment. EMS responded and transported the victim to Piedmont Columbus Regional ER. The victim, Joshua Huff, 16, died shortly after arriving to the hospital.

MURDER OF GIANCARLOS RIVERA

 Sunday, January 8, 2023

On Saturday, January 7, 2023 around 10:26 p.m., the Columbus Police Department’s Patrol Unit was dispatched to the 8000 block of Veterans Parkway (Spring Creek Village Apartments) in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, they observed a Hispanic male (later identified as Giancarlos Rivera, 17) lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound.

JOINT OPERATION TARGETING GANG ACTIVITY

The Georgia Department of Community Supervision (DCS), in conjunction with more than 100 State, Federal, and local partners conducted warrant service, 4th Amendment searches, parole searches, and field interviews with verified gang members primarily associated with known Street Gangs across the state between December 5-9, 2022. The Columbus Police Department and Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office teamed up to carry out the operation in Columbus, GA during that 5-day period.

ESCAPED ALABAMA INMATE CAPTURED IN COLUMBUS

 Thursday, January 5, 2023

On Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 3:45 p.m., the Columbus Police Department was contacted by the Alabama Department of Corrections, requesting assistance capturing an inmate who had escaped from a work detail in Montgomery. The suspect had stolen a vehicle in the same jurisdiction from which he fled the work detail. A Columbus Patrol Officer located the stolen car in the parking lot of the Lucky Food Mart on Floyd Road.
