Deputy Chief Roderick Graham

Deputy Chief Roderick Graham began his career with the Columbus Police Department as a patrol officer on October 9, 1989, after serving seven years in the United States Army. He served in the Tactical Squad between 1992 through 1998. In 1998, he was appointed to the rank of detective and assigned to the Financial Crimes Unit until 2004. In 2004, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and assigned to the Sex Crimes Unit until 2005. In 2005, he was assigned to the Office of Professional Standards for six months, and then, six months in the Bureau of Administrative Services. In 2006, he was re-assigned to the Office of Professional Standards as a sergeant. In 2016, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant through the Office of Professional Standards. In November of 2020, he was appointed as the interim major of the Office of Professional Standards. In December 2020, he was appointed to the rank of deputy chief in the Office of Professional Standards. In November of 2023, Deputy Chief Graham was assigned to the Bureau of Administrative Services.

Deputy Chief Graham earned a Master of Science degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University and a Master of Science degree in Management, Bachelor of Science degree in Management, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Troy State University. He is a graduate of Columbus State University's Command College, Class 26. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Class 282, and a graduate of the Chief Executive Training Class Session 23-71. Deputy Chief Graham has also attended the United States Secret Service Dignitary Protection Seminar, Session 2021-23.

Bureau of Administrative Services

The Bureau of Administrative Services manages the major administrative organizational functions and specialized programs in the Department. These range from training to senior citizens programs.

Training Division

The Training Division provides a variety of training, testing and certification services for department members. Most of this training is provided in-house, including in-service, recruit, field training officer, firearms and much more. Outside training and certification services are also coordinated through this unit.

Personnel Division

Due to the large number of employees and the special employment eligibility requirements, the Department maintains its own Personnel Unit that is responsible for several essential functions including payroll management, police recruitment and pre-employment processing.

Polygraph Unit

The Polygraph Unit conducts polygraph tests for the Department as well as other federal, state and local agencies upon request. Departmental tests usually relate to criminal or administrative issues ("specific issue" investigations) and pre-employment background processing.

Crime Stoppers

The Crime Stoppers/Gun Stoppers program provides the citizens of Columbus with means of providing the Department with anonymous crime information. Citizens may call Crime Stoppers at 653-3188 with any information about any criminal information in Columbus, Phenix City (Alabama) or Ft. Benning.

Handicapped Parking Enforcement

Under the Handicapped Parking Enforcement program, volunteers are trained and authorized to enforce the Handicapped Parking ordinance in Muscogee County. This program has proved effective in citing those who abuse handicapped parking privileges.
