Operation Voorhees Detail

The Columbus Police Department, in conjunction with the Georgia State Patrol and the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, conducted “Operation Voorhees” on Friday, October 13, 2023. This operation was designed to target high-crime areas, increase police presence, reduce criminal activity, and take known criminals off the street.

Arrest Made in Murder of Willie Foster

 Saturday, October 14, 2023

On September 30, 2023 at 12:11 a.m., Columbus Police officers responded to the 1200 block of Veterans Parkway (Zelmo’s) concerning a male who claimed to have killed someone. Officers then discovered a deceased Black male (later identified as Willie Foster, 47) in the 1100 block of 1st Avenue (Trinity Episcopal Church). EMS arrived and could not resuscitate him.

Former YMCA Employee Arrested in Fraud Investigation

Donna Fiquett, 57, has been arrested in connection with an embezzlement case involving the YMCA of Columbus. Fiquett, the former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the YMCA, is facing one count of Theft by Taking (Felony).

Abducted Children Found Safe in South Georgia, Mother Arrested

On today’s date, an arrest warrant was executed for the mother of both children. Kaila Spires, 39, has been taken into
custody in Tift County, GA. She is charged with two counts of Kidnapping.

Mayor’s Press Release on Death Investigation

We are aware of an incident that occurred last night October 5, 2023, involving two Columbus Police Department Officers and an individual placed into custody who later passed away after being transported to the hospital. The Mayor will have further comments at the conclusion of the investigation. This investigation is being conducted with the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

WANTED: Jadarious Greene

On September 11, 2023 at 11:23 p.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to the 3400 block of 8th Avenue (Wilson Apartments) in reference to a person down. Responding officers discovered a Black male (later identified as Javon Smith) suffering from a gunshot wound...Probable cause was established to issue arrest warrants for Jadarious Greene, 18.

Deadly Shooting Investigation on Rigdon Road & 10th Street

Man Arrested in Armour Road Shooting Investigation

On August 27, 2023 at approximately 12:20 p.m., Columbus Police officers responded to the area of Armour Road and Sidney Simons Boulevard in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional where he was listed in stable condition.

Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Rape, Kidnapping

The Columbus Police Department has successfully closed a cold case dating back to May 1, 2015. On that day, officers responded to a kidnapping and sexual assault that occurred in Columbus. Investigators who took over the case learned that the victim was kidnapped at gunpoint by two suspects who stole her vehicle then sexually assaulted her. Despite the efforts of investigators, leads at the time were exhausted and the case went cold.
