Bay Avenue Shooting Investigation

On Friday, September 5, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to a shooting in the 1000 block of Bay Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a female victim (later identified as Kalielah Davis, 18) suffering from a gunshot wound.

Statement on Baby Found in Dumpster

On September 2, 2025, around 6:30 p.m., a newborn baby boy was discovered in a dumpster behind the Budgetel in the 3100 block of Victory Drive. He was taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where he remains in the NICU. Our Special Victims Unit is handling the investigation.

Columbus Police Department Conducts Underage Tobacco/Vape Operation

Columbus Police Department to Host K9 Swearing-In Ceremony

The Columbus Police Department will hold a special ceremony on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Public Safety Center (510 10th Street) to officially swear in its four newest K9 officers. This milestone marks the largest K9 Unit in CPD history and the first time the department has had full-service K9s, trained in narcotics detection, explosive detection, tracking, and apprehension.

Macon Road Murder Investigation

On August 19, 2025, around 4:46 p.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to the 3100 block of Macon Road in reference to a person down. Responding officers discovered a Black male (later identified as Edwin Grier, 66) who was unresponsive and bleeding from the head.
