The Columbus Police Department is committed to conducting fair, unbiased, and expedient investigations into allegations of misconduct on the part of officers and civilian employees of the Columbus Police Department. Please note: It is against the law to make a complaint that you know to be false. Any citizen who knowingly makes false allegations in an official inquiry, such as an internal investigation, may be subject to criminal prosecution for False Swearing (O.C.G.A. 16-10-71), and other felony/misdemeanor such as False Statements (O.C.G.A. 16-10-20):

A person is guilty under this section when he knowingly and willfully falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any tricks, scheme or device, a material fact, or makes a false fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation, or makes or uses any false writing or document, knowing the same to contain any false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry, in any matter within the jurisdiction of any department or agency or State government of any other city or other political subdivision of this state. Punishment for providing false statements: A fine of not more than $1,000.00 or imprisonment for not less than one (1) year nor more than five (5) years.
