The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) gives Columbus-area high school students a voice in local government and community change. Before applying, here are a few key things to know:


  1. Who Can Join

    • Students must be enrolled in a school within Muscogee County (public, private, or homeschool).
    • Applicants should be in 6th–12th grade.
    • A strong interest in leadership, community service, or civic engagement is encouraged — no prior experience required.
  2. What Members Do

    • Attend monthly Youth Advisory Council meetings.
    • Work on community improvement projects and youth-focused initiatives.
    • Provide input to city leaders on issues affecting young people.
    • Participate in volunteer opportunities, city events, and leadership development workshops.
  3. Time Commitment

    • Occasional events, service projects, or committee meetings outside of regular meeting times.
