Welcome to your Local Workforce Investment Agency
In accordance with the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998, a new approach to delivering employment and training services has been initiated throughout and State of Georgia.

The City of Columbus, Program Administrator and Grant Recipient of funds for the administration of federal training programs is designed to assist both youth and adults in becoming employable in occupations geared toward self-sufficiency.

Our mission is to provide quality customer service, which includes strong collaborations with partnering agencies within the community. Our trained staff is available to assist you in making informed choices about the type of training that best meet your needs and interests, and which maximized your employment opportunities.

How Do You Qualify?
If you are unemployed, underemployed, or have been laid off due to plant closures, mass layoffs, or other effects of the changing economy, we may be able to assist you. You, however, must meet the Federal Poverty Guidelines, and age restrictions for the local workforce area.

WIA Services Available

  • Career Counseling and Assessment
  • Exploration of Training/Educational Needs
  • On-the-Job Training for Adults and Dislocated Workers
  • Work Experience for In-School and Out-of-School Youth
  • Remedial and Adult Literacy
  • Occupational Skills/Classroom Training at various colleges, universities, and other classroom training providers
 

How to access services   All individuals must be referred by the Columbus Career Center with a justification for need of training services.

Please note that receipts of employment and training services is not guaranteed, and is based upon the availability of funds and eligibility for program services.
