The Dream Lives

The Dream Lives is an annual celebratory tribute to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It demonstrates through talent, presentations and speakers that the principles espoused by Dr. King still resonate today. Each year we seek to further invigorate the spirit of the MLK legacy to address the challenges of today. Each year we also seek to broaden the commitment to Dr. King's dream by drawing in citizens of all ages, races and walks of life.

This event unifies the community and provides an opportunity to appropriately honor a man who gave his life in the quest for equality and prosperity for all. The highlight of the event is the Unity Processional bringing together civic and church groups, bands, corporate entities, city officials, and individuals to walk in unity while converging on the greenspace directly in front of the Liberty Theatre. Register your group below to join this tremendous tribute to Dr. King.

Meet this year's special guest

The Mayor’s Commission on Unity, Diversity and Prosperity announces the return of Ruthie Foster, a native Texan fresh from production of Joy Comes Back, her new release that has been described as “some blues, some folk, some soul, some rock, some gospel.” Ruthie is an award-winning performer who visited Columbus a few years back. She left a very appreciative audience awestruck. Ruthie stands alone in what she delivers, having honed her unique style while shunning the opportunity to be shaped and melded into a ‘pop star’ at the risk of giving up her authenticity. Ruthie Foster is described by Rolling Stone as “pure magic to watch and hear.” She has won seven Blues Music Awards, three Austin Music Awards, the Grand Prix du Disque from the Academie Charles-Cros in France, and a Living Blues Critics’ Award for Female Blues Artist of the Year.
