Responsibilities of the Probate Court

With a staff of nine employees, the Muscogee County Probate Court exercises exclusive jurisdiction in the probate of wills, administration of estates and the appointment of guardians and conservators for minors and adults.The Probate Court also helps people experiencing a mental health crisis through “orders to apprehend” and helps people with severe mental illness through civil commitments and assisted outpatient treatment.In addition, the Probate Court is responsible for oaths of office to elected officials and issues marriage licenses, weapons carry licenses, residency verifications, veterans tax exemptions certifications, and is a passport acceptance office.
