CPD TO HOST 40TH ANNUAL LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS GEORGIA

The Columbus Police Department will host the 40th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run benefiting Special Olympics Georgia on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. The run will begin at the Public Safety Building (510 E. 10th Street). Registration opens at 8 a.m. and the opening ceremony begins at 9 a.m. You do not have to be a law enforcement officer to participate in this event all are welcome!

CPD TO PARTICIPATE IN GEORGIA CITIES WEEK 2023

The Columbus Consolidated Government announced the city will be celebrating “Georgia Cities Week” April 23-29, 2023. It’s part of an ongoing effort, and statewide initiative, to raise public awareness about cities’ services and educate the public on how city government works. There will be a variety of events in Columbus to celebrate Georgia Cities Week. The Columbus Police Department would like to personally invite you to two of those events.

MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES

On Friday, April 21, 2023, several members of the Columbus Police Department volunteered to work on their off day to aid in crime reduction and suppression. The officers were tasked with patrolling areas that have experienced a rise in criminal activity and citizen complaints. One of those areas is the Woodruff Road Soccer Complex.

MAN FOUND DECEASED ON 10TH STREET

On Friday, April 21, 2023 at 6:44 a.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to the 2900 block of 10th Street concerning a deceased person. Upon arrival, officers found a male (later identified as Jeffery Dillon, 54) lying on the ground next to a truck.

MOTEL 6 SHOOTING SUSPECT ARRESTED IN TENNESSEE

 Thursday, April 13, 2023

On Thursday, April 13, 2023, U.S. Marshals located and arrested Jerimiah Walker in Memphis, Tennessee. He is suspected of shooting and killing Michael Carter, Sr., Michael Carter, Jr., and Tonya Carter. A 4-year-old was also injured in that shooting.
