Dragonfly Trails
Off-Road Greenway Trails
The Dragonfly is Columbus (GA)’s network of off-road greenway trails for recreation, transportation & interaction. The current 34 miles of trail include the RiverWalk, Fall Line Trace and a 1.4-mile connector to be completed spring/summer 2017. Another 27 miles is planned throughout Columbus, creating more than 60 miles of interconnected trails that connect citizens & visitors to the Chattahoochee River, to neighborhoods & jobs, and to each other.
“The Dragonfly” was chosen because dragonflies are an indicator species for clean water in a community. Our dragonfly population has exploded in recent years as we’ve invested heavily in public/private partnerships to restore the Chattahoochee River to health as it flows through downtown, creating the World’s Longest Urban Whitewater Course and the 22-mile RiverWalk linear park. We’ve changed the way we see “our” river and it’s made us more aware of the importance of and resilience of our environment.
