Marshal's Office Merged with Sheriff's Office
Effective January 1, 2021, all personnel and duties of the Muscogee County Marshal's Office will be merged with the Muscogee County Sheriff's Office. This action will eliminate the Marshal's Office.
At the request of the Columbus City Council, legislation was introduced in Georgia's General Assembly to eliminate the Muscogee County Marshal’s Office. The legislation was passed unanimously in both the House and the Senate.
On Friday, February 28, 2020, Governor Brian Kemp signed the legislation which eliminates the Marshal’s Office at the end of the current term (January 1, 2021).
