Columbus Fire & EMS

EMS

The EMS Division serves as the department’s primary medical response unit, dedicated to delivering high-quality emergency medical care and patient transport to the community. The division responds to 911 calls and provides both advanced and basic life support services, while maintaining the operational readiness of all medical equipment housed in ambulances and fire apparatus in full compliance with state and federal standards.

In addition to emergency response operations, the EMS Division manages the billing and revenue processes associated with emergency medical services, ensuring accuracy, accountability, and sustainability of operations.

Beyond traditional response functions, the EMS Division leads several innovative community health initiatives, including the Columbus Correct Care mobile integrated healthcare program and the Right Site program, which provides 911 call navigation and on-scene physician-supported telehealth. These programs are designed to enhance patient outcomes, guide individuals to the most appropriate level of care, and reduce unnecessary utilization of the 911 system for non-emergent medical needs.
