2023 TRICK-OR-TREAT HOURS FOR COLUMBUS, GEORGIA

The City of Columbus, Georgia, has officially announced the trick-or-treat hours for Halloween 2023. On Tuesday, October 31, 2023, residents can enjoy trick-or-treating from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. This designated time period ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for children and families as they go door-to-door in search of delicious treats. It is important for residents to be mindful of the specified hours and to respect the wishes of those who may choose not to participate. The City of Columbus wishes everyone a spooktacular and safe Halloween!

29th Annual Help the Hooch Community Clean-Up and Watershed Festival

from the 29 t h Annual Help the Hooch Citywide Cleanup residents of
Columbus, Fort Benning, and Phenix City are invited to participate in the 29th Annual
Help the Hooch Cleanup on Saturday, October 7th from 8:30am to 11:30am. We’re proud
to announce that all our designate cleanup sites are all Full. Registration is now closed; however,
we are asking residents that would still like to volunteer to clean up your neighborhoods,
churches, or any other public and private spaces in need of cleaning. Let’s Get Clean Columbus!

Public Meeting Notice - Steam Mill Road Improvements

Monday, October 23, 2023, to discuss the Columbus Consolidated Government’s proposed
improvements for Steam Mill Road. The meeting will be held at the Columbus Baptist Association,
3679 Steam Mill Road. The public is invited to attend any time between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. No
formal presentation will be given.

Mayor Skip Henderson Recommends New Police Chief for Council Approval

Mayor Skip Henderson has selected Interim Chief Stoney Mathis to fill the position of Police Chief for the City of Columbus. Mayor Henderson will go before the Columbus Council for approval of his selection on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, the next scheduled business meeting of the Council.

Columbus Fire and EMS Accreditation Approval

The Columbus Fire & Emergency Medical Services Department has been notified by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) that the Department has met all the requirements to receive international accreditation for a fifth time. The CFAI represents a cross-section of the fire and emergency service entities including fire departments, city and county management, labor, standards development organizations, and the U.S. Department of Defense. Accreditation is granted by the CFAI to agencies that complete a rigorous inventory of self-assessment and peer review every five years

Annual Help the Hooch Community Clean-Up

Residents of Columbus, Fort Benning, and
Phenix City are invited to participate in the 29th Annual Help the Hooch Cleanup on
Saturday, October 7th from 8:30am to 11:30am. Help the Hooch is the Southeasts largest river
clean-up, with approximately 10,000 volunteers each year.

Works Department, Integrated Waste Division will roll-out their new “Columbus Blue”
automated side loaders on Monday, September 11, 2023, to begin collecting household garbage
using the city issued black cart only.
