When a crisis affects the Columbus, Georgia, Muscogee County area, Emergency Management and Public Safety officials must be able to reach residents with warnings, information, and updates. In order to ensure that residents can be contacted quickly and effectively, Columbus is using Global Connect's Emergency Notification System, which gives our municipality the ability to call thousands of residents, staff members, and volunteers within minutes. The Global Connect Emergency Notification System uses state-of-the art technology to rapidly send messages to a database of telephone numbers and email addresses. The system offers a number of features that render it particularly useful during a crisis:

Instant Callback � Residents who need additional information or require special assistance from the municipality can make a return call to a designated telephone number with the press of a single key on their telephone keypad.

Customized Mapping Capability � Municipalities can create a customized list of call recipients by selecting the area(s) affected by the emergency at hand. Global Connect will instantly develop the list of telephone numbers for residents in that area.

Remote Access and Deployment � Emergency management officials can deploy a message from any location. Only a telephone is required to record and send a broadcast.

Real-Time Reporting � Municipal officials can see immediately which residents have been reached by telephone, and which have received messages. The system will continue to call residents who have not been reached as frequently and as many times as desired. In an effort to reach all residents in a timely manner we would ask that each homeowner and business review their phone lines and specify the one or two lines that they would like to receive the emergency notification on. Also, the information on which line or lines the homeowner or business would like to receive the notification and the numbers they would like to have removed may be faxed to 706-653-4673. This removal in no way will eliminate the address from receiving a call but will allow us to reach all residents in a quicker manner.

Resident Self-Registration � The city of Columbus has purchased an emergency list containing all landlines in the municipality, but residents who wish to register a cellular telephone number or VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) number can do so via the Emergency Notification System contact form on the Columbus Consolidated Government website, We understand that some residents and business owners may have telephone service that is not listed through AT&T or may have lines that connect to faxes, computers, etc. We are asking these residents to add or remove these lines from the system so we can make it as efficient as possible. The format to add the numbers is (111)111-1111 (NO SPACES).
